Communication as a manager
Effective communication is the centre of successful management in any field, including event management. As a manager, the ability to convey ideas clearly, listen actively, and provide feedback constructively is detrimental to the role. Clear communication ensures that team members understand their roles, responsibilities, and the overall vision of the event. Whether it's articulating expectations, delegating tasks, or addressing challenges, effective communication fosters collaboration, and a sense of unity among the team.
Disecting communication
While verbal communication certainly plays a significant role in how we convey messages, it's important to recognize that effective communication encompasses more than just words, which is why as we can see on the pie chart that words only make for 7% of communication. 38% of communication is conveyed through you tone of voice, pauses and modulation.
Try saying the same sentence, over and over again, but start by saying it in a happy tone, then a sad tone, then an angry tone. By doing this we can see that the words that you say actually don't really matter, like the famous saying it's no what you say, it's how you say it.
Nonverbal cues such as facial expressions, gestures, and body language offer insights into the true meaning behind verbal messages, fostering clarity and empathy in communication. These cues also provide immediate feedback, allowing individuals determin engagement and emotional responses, thereby facilitating more effective interactions.
Being a manager
As a manager 46% of your communication is with the people that you manage. This includes, giving out work, disapliaries and sometimes hiring, which means that communication is at the forefron of the job. Effective communication with subordinates is necessary for a positive work environent.

In my time working as a care assistant, i believe i have had the chance to really develop my skills in communication. Through communicating with clients, families collegues and managers, my communication skils in the work place have imroved, especially whn it comes to sensitivity. Also studying drama at university has improved a multitude of my skills, communication being one of them. From working in performances with others to becoming the Events Manager for the festival, i have had the opportunity to consistently work with others, which has ultimately improved my communication.
